Occupational Therapy assessment is essential to understand a child’s unique sensory and motor strengths and needs and how these impact upon their participation in family life or at school. An Occupational Therapy assessment report is an extremely valuable tool in helping all those supporting the child to understand their needs, to be empathetic and to start to put recommendations into place on a daily basis.
As sensory processing and motor skills differences are very common in Autistic children and in children with a diagnosis of ADHD, Developmental Coordination Disorder/Dyspraxia and Developmental Delay, it is very important for evidence and recommendations from an OT to be included in an EHCP.
How can My World Therapy OT EHCP reports help?
At My World Therapy, all our OTs have extensive experience and post graduate training.
Our OT EHCP reports:
- Help families to secure the right educational placement for their child.
- Help children to gain one to one support from a Learning Support Assistant to ensure that OT recommendations are fully implemented at school.
- Result in recommended OT provision being included in Section F of the EHCP, meaning that children receive the follow up OT they need.
- Help parents and school staff to understand the child’s unique sensory and physical strengths and needs.
This assessment will identify any a child’s unique sensory and motor strengths and needs and how these are impacting upon their participation at school and home. This approximately two-hour appointment is carried out at the therapy practice. Assessment is individually tailored to your child. Standardised and non-standardised assessments will be used in addition to observation and parental interview. Information will be gathered from school staff through questionnaires. Verbal feedback will be given during the appointment. A comprehensive report will be provided and this will be written in the format required for an Education Health and Care Plan. Recommendations will be made for the sensory environment the child needs to enable them to learn. Specified and quantified recommendations will be made for any additional support the child requires at school and for future Occupational Therapy provision.
If highlighted through assessment, the report will provide a Consultant Paediatrician with the evidence they require to consider a diagnosis of Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder.
